Ryan Reynolds, who turns 32 years old on October 23rd, has decided to run in the New York City Marathon in support of his father, who has battled Parkinson’s disease for the past fifteen years. Reynolds was inspired to train for the marathon after a meeting with Michael J. Fox, a fellow actor and ardent fighter of Parkinson’s disease. Reynolds, whose filmography includes adult comedies such as National Lampoon’s Van Wilder and next year’s upcoming movie, The Proposal, with Sandra Bullock, has never been fond of running. In fact, he says, “I am not a runner. I am a running joke. Waking up at 4:30 am and jogging anywhere from 11 to 23 miles has been nothing short of horrifying. I can’t imagine a worse way to start the day.” However, the fact that he is attempting to fulfill the physical and mental challenge of a marathon, running 26.2 miles through the five boroughs of New York, shows that he is committed to fighting the disease that has over-taken his father’s life.
