Andre Agassi and David Robinson were honored last night at the U.S. Open for creating schools for underprivileged children.  Women’s  soccer superstar Mia Hamm and football great Doug Flutie were also honored for their efforts in bone marrow and autism, respectively.

U.S. women’s soccer legend, Mia Hamm is teamming up with husband, Nomar Garciaparra in hosting their 2nd Annual Celebrity Soccer Challenge.  The event will be held on Saturday, January 17, at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.  General admission to the event is just $20.00, which will go towards benefitting bone marrow transplant patients and their families.  The Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles is directly involved with the event, as well as the Mia Hamm Foundation, which raises awareness and funds for bone marrow disease research in addition to supporting families through the marrow transplant process.  The Mia Hamm Foundation also promotes and helps develop more opportunities for young women in sports.

Celebrities expected to participate in the match include skateboarding legend, Tony Hawk, Gold medal winning volleyball players, Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor, NFL great Marcus Allen, Weezer singer, Rivers Cuomo, as well as current and former members of the U.S. men’s and women’s national soccer team.
