Curtis Granderson, CF of the Detroit Tigers, was recently awarded the Marvin Miller Man of the Year award by the MLB Players Association for his work on and off the field. This was due as a combination of all Granderson’s charitable efforts and the MLBPA donated $50,000 to a charity of his choice. Current Red Sox Josh Beckett and David Ortiz have been contributing to local hospitals by fundraising through different means. Beckett recently held his 3rd annual Beckett Bowl, which raised money for Children’s Hospital in Boston, while Ortiz has partnered his foundation with Massachusetts General Hospital to help subsidize operations. Sheff gets his groove back with Mets

on:The Tigers released Sheffield — and swallowed nearly $14 million — when they determined at the end of spring training that they would be better off with a designated-hitter-by-committee. The Mets signed Sheffield shortly thereafter. Now that he’s hitting .291 with five home runs, they’re probably wondering where they would be without him.
