Young Olympian Sets Precedent for Philanthropy

Posted on: February 22, 2010

With 24 medals, many of the United States’ top athletes, including comeback kid Bode Miller and phenom Shaun White, have surpassed expectations with magnificent, world-class, performances. However, what I’ve found equally as inspiring as Team USA’s performance are the messages of hope and grace that some of our youngest Olympians have demonstrated. Prime example: US Snowboarder and Olympic silver medalist Hannah Teter. Hannah wowed us with her performance in the halfpipe, but even more impressive is the philanthropic work we learned about during the broadcast. Through Hannah’s Gold (http://www.hannahsgold.com/), Teter raises money for clean water projects, homeless AIDS victims, and the town of Kirindon, Kenya. It’s refreshing and exciting to see a young woman of Hannah’s talents using her stature to give back to the environment. A lesson to all of us: that anyone has the ability to make a difference.
