Sheff gets his groove back with Mets

The Tigers released Sheffield — and swallowed nearly $14 million — when they determined at the end of spring training that they would be better off with a designated-hitter-by-committee. The Mets signed Sheffield shortly thereafter. Now that he’s hitting .291 with five home runs, they’re probably wondering where they would be without him.
